Season III Draft Recap

Andrew Luck – Pictured the moment Spacebob drafted him, and thinking about announcing retirement.

This past Saturday, the Fortis Fantasy Season 3 Draft took place. This was hands down the most competitive draft so far in the young history of this fantasy league. The draft had a lot of drama, and there is still a lot to take in. It has been two days since the draft, and I will do my best to recap the draft and see how all ten teams are looking headed into the season.

PICK #1 – Spacebob(temp)

I guess the temp in Spacebob’s name does not refer to his team name – it refers to how half his team will need to be dropped by week one. Andrew Luck retired shortly after being drafted by Spacebob (management might be an issue?). A few rounds later, the Houston Texans’ doctors called in telling the owners that Lamar Miller potentially has an ACL tear. Spacebob said FUCK the doctors and scooped him up late in hopes that he would Darren Sharper his team to the playoffs. Most fantasy owners would already be fearing their playoff chances after drafting those two. However, Spacebob might have one of the best fantasy teams in the league. He has the big 3 in Barkley, Thielen and Brown. Some great secondary additions such as Edelman & Ingram should keep the teams points consistent. Spacebob also took a big gamble on Melvin Gordon. If he signs a contract, Spacebob would be the #1 team in the rankings, and if not, won’t hurt the team. Overall, a great draft.

Projected Record: 10-3

Pick #2 : The Trubwhiskeys

Here is an exclusive look at The Trubwhiskeys management rigging their draft pick:

The two time champion came away with the second draft pick. So what did he do with it? Well, he is going all in on risky players. There isn’t one player who I would consider consistent on the entire team. Chris Carson, Kerryon, Hunter Henry and Alshon Jeffery all have high potential, but are in no way proven yet. Mike Evans is a touchdown machine but could bust in multiple games. The Trubwhiskeys are the team that took the shot on Mahomes. Can this QB actually repeat last season? Doubtful, right? Kamara was their first round pick, and while he certainly can win you weeks, we have seen him put under 10 points multiple times. This team has potential to be a disaster, but if everyone hits could run the table. I think this is the year the leagues best team falls back down to reality.

Projected Record: 8-5

Pick #3 – Jfry’s Fryers

With the 3rd pick in this draft, we have the Fryers. I included a picture of the Browns because the Fryers have a strong comparison to the Browns. Both are exciting teams coming into the 2019 season, and both have been awful in recent years. The Fryers have embraced this by having A THIRD OF HIS STARTING ROSTER BE CLEVELAND BROWNS. (and no, none of these three are OBJ, Chubb, or Mayfield) Look, the Browns are still the Browns, and Jfry is still Jfry. Well, once the Browns experiment is over at least he has fucking GRONK on the bench. This might get ugly.

Projected Record: 5-8

Pick #4 – Emily’s Entourage

Here we have Whiteside’s Warriors, or at least the team he wanted. When reports about the Warriors owner’s phone being lost, it was assumed it was stolen by a random person. Now we know The Entourage got their hands on this information. This team was picked right of Eddie’s draft cheat sheet. Even including taking Nick Chubb at the #4 spot. BOLD. (and a little dumb) This team is interesting, it had some good selections such as: James White, Juju, and Diggs. Also so iffy ones, such as the aforementioned Chubb, and also Murray (a back up running back as his flex). This is one of the harder rosters to predict, so I am putting them right in the middle of the pack.

Projected Record: 6-7

Pick #5 – RemoveBluegill

Coming in at pick 5, we have the Blue Gill. This draft we were expecting a new era for this franchise. After two last place finishes, a new draft strategy was expected. Well, he drafted Lev Bell again. Let’s hope this goes better this year. Bell has proven before that he is elite, but can he do it in a timeshare backfield with the Jets. An interview before the draft, the Blue Gill owner said he would not draft Patriots this year with the goal of actually being competitive. He drafted three. Oh well, maybe in season 4. The rest of this team does look decent though, and I can see him jumping out of last place to at least 9th place. Good luck to him!

Projected Record: 5-8

Pick #6 – Vorpal’s Vanguards

At pick #6, we have the Vanguards. This new franchise is building up a lot of hype coming into the season. A lot of work into their draft strategy seems to have paid off. It does help that the top 5 picks somehow gifted this team David Johnson. Like seriously? This team isn’t going to break any record for points scored, but the team is built off of consistency. They should be scoring 120-130 a week. A championship run is on the shoulders (in this case, arthritic knees) of Todd Gurley. If he has another MVP season, Vorpal is a shoe in for the playoffs. If those knees can’t carry that beast of a man, the Vanguards will be a fringe team. This team is deep on the bench, so it can over come other injuries. It just needs that one breakout.

Projected Record: 8-5

Pick #7- Whiteside’s Warriors

This picture best represents the Warriors draft. Zeke who is on a plane to Cabo, represents Eddie sitting there hiding his identity after that shit draft. You got Wilson next to him taking his picks and laughing it up. So lets dive into this team. At Wide Reciever #1 you got: Mike Williams. MIKE WILLIAMS. His RB #1 isn’t even in the country. Who will be his RB #2 behind Damien Williams? He might be rolling Singletary out there. (Isn’t he the RB3 on that team?) It is true in football that defense wins championships. However, this is fantasy. Instead of taking RB depth he took the BEARS DEFENSE. I understand the Bears D is good. But you better have a good team before reaching on them. Basically to best sum up his team in one player on his team: Kareem Hunt. Cause he just booted away the season.

Projected Record: 3-10

____________________________________________________________

Pick #8 – Fightin’ Buffalo

Six Running backs on the team will be week 1 starters for their team. Two elite Receivers led by third time Fightin’ Buffalo, Julio Jones. Honestly can’t say much since this is my team, but I am very happy with my team. Good depth, decent starters. There is some risk injury wise with Coleman and Freeman, and an Aaron Rodgers injury could ruin Adam’s season. If this team is healthy, watch out.

Projected Record: 10-3

____________________________________________________________

Pick #9 – Kibbz Killerz

I am very excited for this team. He learned!! (kind of). Instead of drafting 3 defenses and 7 kickers, he did the right thing and did one of each. Taking an early shot on Aaron Rodgers was a huge surprise, but it could be worse. However this team has one flaw that is looking to derail them. TY Hilton & Marlon Mack are both Killerz this year. While Andrew Luck’s retirement was a good laugh at Spacebob, it hurts the Killerz the most. Hunter Renfroe might be next in line TO START for the Killerz. Imagine that. Depth could be fatal for the Killerz after drafting only 4 receivers. I do agree that OBJ and Conner are great picks at the first round turn. They should keep him afloat. Borderline playoff team this year.

Projected Record: 6-7

____________________________________________________________

Pick #10 – Llever Lucky

While I said OBJ was a good pick for Kibb, he did let Hopkins unbelievably fall to the 10th spot. Paired with Michael Thomas, Llever Lucky has a fantastic receiver core. How committed is he to winning though? The man didn’t even show up on Discord to the draft. His biggest weakness is running back (makes sense). Lindsay and Jones are his big two, and both are interesting. The Packers don’t run the ball, and Lindsay is expected to take a big step down. This season is looking to be a repeat of last season. Either Llever Lucky will score 170 or 60.

Projected Record: 7-6

Welcome to the Show

An brief look into Fortis Fantasy’s two new organizations.

Spring will soon turn to summer, and the owners of the ten teams in Fortis Fantasy will be getting busy researching potential draft sleepers that can bring them home the season 3 champion. Most of the league looks the same after season 2. Eight teams will return this season, six of which were apart of the original ten teams in season 1. Today we say goodbye to two owners, while we welcome two more into our league. Let’s get stared:

Goodbye to:

Hoosier (3-10) – Hoos competed in Fortis Fantasy for two seasons, finishing off season 2 with a 3-10 record. Many forget that he went 8-6 in season 1 and nearly made the playoffs. With such fierce competition, a losing record does not risk removal from the league. However, the way this owner handled some his organization got him removed this season. First off activity – he didn’t quite communicate with owners as much as the rest of the league wanted. He averaged 1.6 posts per month in the league’s chat. Also, his team was not functioning as a whole. Some players were on the starting roster and injured, as the entire team seemed to give up. This was the main reason for replacement, as new more competitive teams are eager to join.

Zayby (5-8) – Zayby’s first season in the league was season 2, and came out strong. He made some questionable calls, including the blockbuster Gurley trade. He finished 5-8, which was only one game out of a playoff spot. However, to see why he was removed from the league, we need to take a moment to dive deeper into why he wasn’t in the playoffs. With three weeks left in the season, he pulled through a clutch win against the Fightin’ Buffaloes, all but securing him a playoff spot. However, the following Wednesday, disaster. The NFL made a stat correction, giving one extra point to Lamar Jackson, granting the Fightin’ Buffaloes a win. This would end up allowing the Fightin’ Buffaloes to get the sixth seed, and eliminating Zayby. Zayby would go on to RWT all of his gold on Runescape, getting banned. He fell into a pit both in fantasy and IRL, and was given a ban from the league. It was a sad story and left a second opening for Season 3.

The Newcomers:

Now, for the fun part. We are welcoming two new teams this year, and here we have a exclusive interview with the team owners. Insight to their upcoming team names as well!

Our new owners: Vorpal and Questlove.

Coming into the league can be quite daunting. I wanted to get an insight to their thoughts, so I asked some basic questions and here are the answers they gave me:

_______________________________________________

How much fantasy football experience have you had in your career?

Questlove: I was an owner for four seasons before I made the move to basketball.

Vorpal: Basically nothing. I’ve kind of watched my dad play for a few seasons before and have talked to him about it some, but I’ve never actually played in a season myself before.

_______________________________________________

How confident are you coming into your rookie season in Fortis Fantasy? Playoffs in mind?

Questlove: Oh yeah playoffs are always the goal. Can’t say what happens after that, though. It all depends on whose team is hot down the stretch.

Vorpal: There’s a high level of confidence from being a generally competitive person, but also a low level of confidence from the lack of experience in fantasy in particular. With the 2 combined I’m feeling pretty average. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to handle the bigger guys but I might be able to scoop some wins from the smaller names in the league. My main goal for this season is just to be anything higher than last place, but I think I have the potential to be a bit of a sleeper and may be able to pull out a respectable rank for a first timer.

_______________________________________________

Which team do you want to beat the most in the league?

Questlove: Oh thats got to be Pete. The reigning champ would be a sweet team to beat.

Vorpal: I feel like the only correct answer here is Pete. Beating him would be a massive upset and I think I would instantly get a lot of respect if that were to happen. Though Pete is also someone who knows me well enough to know that if I really try at something that I generally do pretty well at it, so I already know he’s going to be looking over his shoulder when it comes to me so that makes it more difficult.

_______________________________________________

Final question. Any team names in mind?

Questlove: Now You Know. It’s an old Hawks motto that always stuck with me. Hella fitting for a rookie year in my opinion.

Vorpal: Yeah I’m going to end up going with Vorpal’s Vanguards. Got a runescape reference in there, some alliteration, and just sounds decent 😀

Final thoughts:

I am excited to see how these two do under the bright lights. Hopefully they can fit right in with the league and begin great careers. I asked a season 2 rookie (Jfry) on any advise he would give them heading into their rookie year.

“Welp, coming from someone who did almost no research and basically picked up nobody off the wire.. Pay attention to the league, do your homework before the draft, and beat Pete at all costs.”

The Best Team Nobody Hears About

F

An in depth look in at the second best team in Fortis Fantasy, and why he has flown under the radar in his time in ownership.

Fortis Fantasy Football is entering the third season since its creation. There are many story lines coming into this season. Will the Trubwhiskeys three peat? It is unlikely, but the possibility strikes fear into the other nine owners. Will the team formerly known as the Avocado Ice Cream get out of last place for the first time? Probably not. These are the stories that are talked about, the extremes in the FFF league. But what nobody is talking about is the founder of the team, his reign of dominance, and back to back choke jobs. Let’s take a look back.

We are going to have to go back to the beginning in 2017 to fully understand where it all began. Fortis Fantasy Football began in the head of one of the long time members of Fortis, a man known as Eddy. Looking back, his time on Runescape foreshadowed his play in Fortis Fantasy. He was one of the elite talents in the game, and built one of the best accounts. But right when it was time to max, choked. He was always loved and respected, but was always in the shadow of some of the true elites. When he created Fortis Fantasy, this had to be in the back of his head. Even before the first ever Fortis Fantasy Draft, he had something to prove.

Many of you reading this don’t remember much about Fortis Fantasy Season 1. This is because it was still in its infancy, trying to find the best members and best structure. By the time the playoffs rolled around in Season 1, multiple members had stopped setting their line ups, and some that did weren’t putting enough effort in to really challenge the Goliaths of the league. As a result, the semi final games in Season 1 were blow outs, leading to a championship game between the Trubwhiskeys and the subject of our story today, the Whiteside’s Warriors.

The final game of the season had a lot of high expectations. The #1 seeded Trubwhiskeys had won three consecutive games to finish the season with a 10-4 record, which tied the Warriors. (Who in season 1 were named after Fortis Fantasy Mascot, I Badoodled) The Trubwhiskeys were the favorite, Vegas had them favored by over 15 points, which is unheard of in Fantasy Football. This Warriors team had a flaw. They couldn’t score for shit. They had 1542.98 points on the season, which had them ranked 5th out of the 10 teams. (This would have had the Warriors in 8th in Season 2) He talked big going into the final game, but in reality it was over before it started. We all expected the Trubwhiskeys to win the inaugural season, but nobody expected this performance from the Warriors. It was hard to watch. 162 to 88. I will type that again for you. 162 to 88. Many believed his best chance to win a title has come and gone. However, season 2 was right around the corner. And once again, the Warriors came out trying to shock the world.

Ty Hilton – drafted by the Warriors, and played in the champ game (Not with the Warriors)

Season 2 was a much different season. All of the owners were all in. Everyone drafted well. The competitiveness was off the charts. New comers Jfry and PvM were both fantastic additions to the league. One was much needed company for the Avocado Ice Cream in last place, while the other made surprise playoff run. The Warriors opened up the season with a tough loss from a much improved Spacebob (temp) team. They then rattled off two dominating wins outscoring their opponents by 100 points in those two games. With those two games, all eyes should have been on them. They were near the top of the league in scoring, and looked to be in route to another battle for the #1 seed. But once again, the true giants overshadowed him. Spacebob (temp) went on a run to start the season, beating both the Warriors and the Trubwhiskeys, the finalist from Season 1. Kibb’s Killerz were proving to be a high powered offense, and the Trubwhiskeys, even with a slow start were generating more buzz with high hopes for a repeat trophy.

Week 4 Match up of Season 2

With all of these high powered teams, surprisingly nobody had a perfect 3-0 start. Three teams would go on to start the year 3-1. One was the Trubwhiskeies, and the other two, would both end up in dead last place by season’s end. Notice how the Warrior’s aren’t 3-1 at that time. This was especially surprising when you look at who they played week 4. Tied for the league worst with Jfry, was the 0-3 Fightin’ Buffalo. The Buffalo had high hopes coming in, and had actually put up some decent points, but couldn’t buy a win. They were looking for their first every playoff appearance in Fortis Fantasy, but a week four match up against an elite opponent made a fatal 0-4 start look more than likely. This was bigger than it appeared though, this was a rivalry game. Not only were a point in the standings on the line, but pride as well. In rivalry games, nothing is a given, and it proved here. The Buffaloes secured their first win, and gave the Warriors a massive blow to getting their name out there as favorites.

Final Standings of Season 2

The Warriors would go on to win 8 out of their last nine games, securing the #1 seed in the playoffs throughout. It was an impressive run, that once again went unnoticed. How is that so? How can the team that scored the second most points in the league, and tied for first place for the second straight year, go unnoticed? For the first half of the year, the Killerz were to blame. They were putting up points at a record breaking pace. From weeks 4 to 9 they scored 160 at minimum, winning every game. They broke 190 points twice in that span. They were heavy favorites to win it all. Then, injuries crippled their season and opened up for the two powerhouses of old, to step into the spotlight. The Trubwhiskeys and the Warriors. The eyes were on the Trubwhiskies after they ended the Killerz streak in week 10. With the playoffs set, the top seeded Warriors and the Trubwhiskies were on a rematch in the championship game.

An expanded playoff format allowed for six teams to make the playoffs last season, which granted playoff births to both Spacebob (temp) and the Fightin’ Buffaloes. An interesting note: The Warriors finished their season 10-3. Their only losses game against the Buffaloes (0-1) and the Spacebob (temp) (0-2). The Warriors and Trubwhiskies enjoyed their bye week, even posting spongebob eating popcorn memes. They were both extremely confident in winning their semi final games and having a rematch in the finals, for a game that can only be compared to the basketball game in Space Jam. The Trubwhiskies were in playoff form, winning 132.15 to 64.35. It was a lopsided semi final, but was expected. The Trubwhiskies are the defending champion while the Luckys (PvM) were newcomers and truly not ready for the spotlight. The stage was set.. The Trubwhiskies vs The Warr…… Wait what. The 6th seeded, 6-7, Fightin Buffaloes not only beat the Warriors, but destroyed them. It was an absolute embarrassment.

Warriors’ Owner Eddy wasn’t heard from all week. The players and fans were upset, the organization was spiraling out of control. Back to back seasons with the top record and zero championships to show for it. Season 3 is coming soon, and the window appears to have been slammed shut. Vegas has the Warriors out of the playoffs next season. The Warriors organization has done amazing things the last two seasons, but has been overshadowed by the big brother Trubwhiskies and the playoff performances that can only be compared to the local Buffalo Bills. He deserved a championship, but he couldn’t bring one home. Season 3 is coming, let’s see what hes got.
